Methodist Church Bodie, California Kit 1055 ![]() ![]() Gold and quartz were discovered in Bodie in 1859 but it was not until 1874 that the population really began to increase. Bodie emerged as the largest mining town on the east side of the Sierra Nevada. Since 1880 Bodie was in a constant state of change. In 1962, the Town of Bodie was officially made a California State Park. The Methodist church was built in September 1882 and is still standing today. The interior of the Methodist Church featured a large plaque behind the altar, upon which were written the Ten Commandments. The last service was held in 1932 when almost the entire population finally left Bodie. Kit Dimensions: Church:
